The plan

Day 1 — Killarney to Kenmare via Moll's Gap

  • Drive the south side of Killarney National Park to Kenmare. Stop at the Ladies' View for photographs.
  • Short walk: the Old Kenmare Road — 5 km, historic, atmospheric.
  • Stay: Kenmare. Dinner at Packie's.

Day 2 — Kenmare to Sneem

  • Scenic coastal drive with stops at Parknasilla and Staigue Fort.
  • Short walk: Sneem Sculpture Walk — 2 km village walk taking in the modern public art.
  • Stay: Sneem village. Dinner at The Blue Bull.

Day 3 — Sneem to Cahersiveen via Waterville

  • The south-west curve of the Ring. Stop at Derrynane Beach (Daniel O'Connell's house).
  • Short walk: Bolus Head — dramatic cliffs, Skellig views.
  • Stay: Cahersiveen. Trad session at Mike Murt's.

Day 4 — Cahersiveen to Glenbeigh, back to Killarney

  • Morning: climb Knocknadobar for panoramic Kerry views (4 hours).
  • Lunch at Ashe's in Kenmare.
  • Afternoon: Drive back to Killarney via the Ring, stopping at Kerry Bog Village museum and Glenbeigh.
  • Stay: Killarney. Final dinner at Quinlan's Seafood Bar.
