The plan

Day 1 — Killarney to Black Valley (22 km)

  • Through Killarney National Park, around the south side of the Reeks, into the remote Black Valley.
  • Stay: Black Valley Youth Hostel or a local B&B.

Day 2 — Black Valley to Glencar (18 km)

  • Through the Bridia Valley, past Lack Road, into Glencar.
  • Stay: Glencar village B&B.

Day 3 — Glencar to Glenbeigh (18 km)

  • Across open moorland and down to the south shore of Dingle Bay.
  • Stay: Glenbeigh.

Day 4 — Glenbeigh to Cahersiveen (27 km — long)

  • The longest single day. Along the coast around Rossbeigh and on to Cahersiveen.
  • Stay: Cahersiveen.

Day 5 — Cahersiveen to Waterville (26 km)

  • Over the shoulder of Knocknadobar, south to Waterville village.
  • Stay: Waterville.

Day 6 — Waterville to Caherdaniel (12 km — rest day)

  • Shorter, scenic stage along the south coast.
  • Stay: Caherdaniel.

Day 7 — Caherdaniel to Sneem (16 km)

  • Inland across moor and bog.
  • Stay: Sneem.

Day 8 — Sneem to Kenmare (29 km — long)

  • Second-longest stage. Inland through the hills.
  • Stay: Kenmare.

Day 9 — Kenmare to Killarney (22 km — finale)

  • Over Windy Gap, through Killarney National Park, and home to Killarney town.
  • Final pint at The Shire Bar in Killarney. You have walked 214 km in 9 days. Well done.
